Concerned Citizens,

There is something terribly wrong in our community – a child’s hopes and dreams for a bright future are slowly and unwittingly being robbed from him.  How can this be?  You see he and other young children in our community have a learning disability and no one even knows.  It is often said that learning disabilities such as dyslexia are invisible but they need not be crippling conditions – there is hope.  You can help a frustrated and withdrawn child by restoring his dreams and hopes for a better future.  All it takes to help place this child on the path towards success is $100.  Your gift today of $100 will help sponsor one child’s initial screening and five hours of specialized tutoring so that he will know that he is not “dumb” and he can indeed learn to read and write.  A child needs you today so don’t wait – please help him today through your tax deductible gift of $100.

I invite you to be a part of our mission of restoring hopes and dreams.  Imagine the feeling of joy you’ll have knowing that your gift today will help one child learn to read and write.  Imagine also how your gift, combined with the gift of your neighbor and her neighbor, will help transform the lives of so many children in your community.

Maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “One hundred dollars can’t make a difference.”  I can tell you from personal experience that our learning program has been changing lives for close to 40 years now.  Let me share a personal story with you about one mom’s struggle to help her son, Christopher, have hope to be all that he can be.

Christopher Ripple is a second generation dyslexic child.  His mom Sheri had a brother Scott who was dyslexic and received tutoring at the Shedd Association in Louisville.  Sheri herself suspects she was also dyslexic but never received tutoring.  When her son was screened and needed to be in a special tutoring program she did not hesitate to get him the help he needed.  She took Christopher to Saturday tutoring and when they moved to Evansville, she was still prepared to travel to Louisville but discovered our program in Hopkinsville.  For over three years she traveled once a week from Evansville to Hopkinsville for her son to receive tutoring. In her own words Sheri says:

“You may ask me, ‘Was it worth it?’  I would say with a resounding yes it was worth it.  If it had not been for this program…if I had not fought for him and did what I had to do to help him be the person God created, he would have been lost.

In my town, the schools will not help a child unless they are flunking school.  I did not want him labeled special education.  Failure was not an option.  Children who are able to be in Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile program are very blessed.

I would encourage anyone who wants to help young people to give to this program.  You will be glad that you did.  You will be helping other people be all that they can be and make something of their lives.”

Sheri’s love for her son is apparent and her commitment to his future has been rewarded because Christopher graduated from high school with honors in 2007 and is currently attending the University of Evansville, majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Thanks be to God that Christopher’s life has a bright future ahead of him, but not every child is as fortunate as Christopher.  For every one Christopher there are tens of others that may never know they are dyslexic nor receive the help that they need.  Nevertheless, with your financial support we may continue to be a beacon of hope in Christian County and our surrounding region to attract those in need so that when a little girl named Christina comes needing help she will experience the satisfaction of learning to read and write and follow in the steps of Christopher.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours truly,
